We had earlier reported that Rashmika Mandanna will be joining D51, Dhanush's tentatively titled next film directed by Sekhar Kammula. The makers of the film have announced on Tuesday that Akkineni Nagarjuna will be starring in the film in a significant role. This announcement was made on the occasion of Nagarjuna's birthday. The actor turned 64 this year.

Taking to social media to express their elation while wishing Nagarjuna, Suneil Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao, the producers of D51 write, "We needed a powerhouse for our pan-Indian project with Dhanush and Sekhar Kammula, and who better than our very own 'King'. Wishing King Nagarjuna a very happy birthday! We are extremely excited to work with you once again! Can't wait to get this show on the road." Nagarjuna has previously worked with Sree Venkateswara Creations LLP, the producers of D51, in The Ghost, which came out last year. Amigos Creations, Sekhar Kammula's home banner will be co-producing this film.

In addition to The Ghost, the actor was seen last year in Kalyan Krishna's Bangarraju, the sequel of his 2016 film Soggade Chinni Nayana and Brahmastra Part One - Shiva, which marked his first Hindi film after the 2003 war film LOC Kargil.
