Addressing the speculations surrounding Naga Chaitanya's upcoming project with Kartikeya 2 director Chandoo Mondeti in a concrete fashion, the makers of NC 23, namely Naga Chaitanya, Chandoo Mondeti and producer Bunny Vas, have released photos of themselves interacting with fishermen of Srikakulam. The plot of NC 23 will be based on a true story revolving around this fishermen community. The film's pre-production is in full swing and the team might commence shooting by the end of this month. Keerthy Suresh might play the female lead in the film.

Speaking about his interactions to the media present at the location, Naga Chaitanya says, "Chandoo narrated the storyline 6 months ago. I got very excited. He developed the story based on real incidents. Vas and Chandoo have been traveling for two years to work on the story. The story was so inspiring. We came here to know the lifestyle of fishermen, their body language, and also the texture of the village. The pre-production works begin today.”

Speaking more about the story and how it materialised in a film, Chandoo Mondeti is quoted saying, "A local guy named Karthik prepared a story based on a real incident that happened in 2018. He initially told the story to Aravind Garu and Bunny Vas Garu. I got excited when I heard the story. We've been working on the script for the last 2 years. The script is ready now and it has come out well. Chay is pleased with the story. We wanted to start pre-production of the movie here where the incident took place.”
