Actor-comedian Rahul Ramakrishna, who rose to fame with films such as Arjun Reddy, Bharat Ane Nenu and Jathi Ratnalu, has shocked his followers with an announcement that he is quitting films and 2022 will be his last year for acting.

"2022 is my last. I will not do films anymore. Not that I care, nor should anybody care,” tweeted Rahul Ramakrishna on Friday night.

While the reason behind his decision was not known, his tweet has become viral on social media. His followers are flooding his timeline with messages and are also requesting him to reconsider his decision and continue acting.

Speculations were also doing the rounds that Rahul is turning a director and will soon make a formal announcement on his directorial debut.

Back in 2019, a day after the release of his film, Mithai, Rahul deleted his Twitter profile while accepting the film's failure. Two months later, he reactivated his Twitter and has been keeping his fans and followers updated on his upcoming projects.

Rahul's upcoming film RRR, featuring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles, is slated to land in theatres on March 25.
