Golden Globes 2023: RRR nominated for Best Picture - Non-English language and Best Original Song

SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster film RRR might not have been India's official entry to the Oscars 2023, but the film is making all the right noises in the award circuit to become a frontrunner across many categories. After multiple wins in various awards in the West, the film gained one of its prominent feathers in its already crowded cap with a nomination at the Golden Globes. 

The Golden Globes announced their nominations today, and the Jr NTR and Ram Charan-starrer gained two nods -- in the Best Non-English Language Film category and for the Best Original Song, Motion Picture category (Naatu Naatu).

For the Best Non-English language film, RRR will fight it out against strong contenders like All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Argentina, 1985 (Argentina), Close (Belgium), and Decision to Leave (South Korea). Notably, RRR is the only Indian film to make the final five amid other entries from the country. These include Kantara, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Chhello Show, which was India's official entry for the Oscars, where RRR has been submitted independently for consideration in multiple categories.

'Naatu Naatu', composed by MM Keeravani, will be competing at the Golden Globes with 'Carolina' from Where the Crawdads Sing, 'Ciao Papa' from Pinocchio, 'Hold My Hand' from Top Gun: Maverick and 'Lift Me Up' from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

RRR, which was released on March 24, has become a worldwide phenomenon with conversations around the film becoming unmissable when it comes to awards discussions. 

Recently, SS Rajamouli won the Best Director award from the New York Film Critics Circle, which has traditionally been a precursor of sorts to the Oscar buzz. With a Golden Globe nod for the film, many expect RRR to bring home the coveted statuette.
