Over the past few days, reports from several media outlets have claimed that last year's Telugu hit, Shyam Singha Roy, will compete at the upcoming Oscars in three categories, namely 'periodic film', 'background score' and 'classical cultural dance Indie film'.

There is no truth in these reports. While the origin of the news is unclear, there is no official source to back corroborate these claims. Likewise, the Oscars awards do not award the categories mentioned above. Speaking to Cinema Express, a source close to the film also denied these claims and expressed surprise at the reports.

The reports emerged at a time when social media is replete with posts about RRR's prospects at the Oscars race after Variety reported that the SS Rajamouli film has a chance to bag two nominations.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap too supported RRR in a recent interview, stating that it has a chance to earn a nomination in the Best International Film category, provided India chooses to submit it as the official selection.

Likewise, if Shyam Singha Roy or any other title is shortlisted by the Government of India for submission, the development will be officially shared. As of now, there has been no such development.

Shyam Singha Roy, directed by Rahul Sankrityan, features Nani, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian and Krithi Shetty in main roles. The film tells the story of the titular reformist, hailing from the Bengal region, who is murdered and reincarnated in the modern day. The was released in December last year and was met with positive critical reception.
