A small film, Dooradarshini, is all set to hit the screens this Friday, May 15. Directed by Karthikeya Kommi, the film stars Suvikshit and Geethika Ratan as the lead pair. M Jay Shankar Reddy and Patimeedi Santosh are producing the film under the Varaha Movie Makers banner.

“The story of the film is based on a real-life incident,” said director Karthikeya Kommi. He revealed that an elderly man currently living in Tiruvannamalai has inspired this story. “He shared his story with us, and based on those real-life incidents, we developed the script,” he added.

Karthikeya, who earlier directed films like Saadhyam and Lakshmi Bomb, said this is his first film with newcomers. “Since the story is rooted in real incidents, I chose to narrate it in a very realistic manner,” he explained.

Talking about the title Dooradarshini, the director said it draws inspiration from the 1990s era, when people used to watch programs like Chitralahari on Doordarshan. “The film will take audiences back to those nostalgic days. In villages, people would gather at one house to watch TV, especially for programs like Chitralahari. That setting also becomes a backdrop for a love story,” he said.

He added that the film carries strong emotional elements that will connect with audiences across age groups. “It reflects the excitement and bonding people experienced during that time. The film is filled with emotions and will remind viewers of their golden days,” he said.

When asked about similarities with the recently released Thimmarajupalli TV, Karthikeya clarified that there is no connection between the two films. “Ours is a pure emotional drama. The father-son relationship and the emotional depth in each scene will leave a strong impact,” he noted.

He further elaborated that the story is based on a true incident from Andhra Pradesh. “The film explores why an elderly man was forced to take up begging due to circumstances involving his own son. That real-life story became the foundation of our film,” he said.

Karthikeya emphasised that he has stayed true to realism rather than taking cinematic liberties. “The village backdrop is portrayed authentically, making the audience feel like they are reliving rural life,” he added.

Highlighting the film’s strength, he said, “The climax is the biggest highlight. It will leave the audience thinking even after they leave the theatre. I believe viewers will walk out with the satisfaction of having watched a meaningful film.”
