The trailer of Rajinikanth's Deepavali release Annaatthe is out and it promises to be a treat for the families this festive season. The trailer begins with punch dialogues that have become synonymous with the Superstar. A voiceover in Rajini's voice talks about what defines a person while he thrashes a bunch of rogues in a railway factory in Kolkata.

The trailer then shows us what looks like his character's hometown in Madurai and establishes that Rajini's character is named Kalaiayyan, who is the president of all the neighbouring villages. We also get to know that he is also the affectionate head of a large extended family that comprises Meena, Khusbhu, Soori, Sathish, Pandiraj, and Livingston. Keerthy Suresh plays Rajinikanth's sister and their bonding is shown with some fun moments. We also get introduced to Nayanthara's character who is Kalaiayyan's love interest.

As the peppy music deviates into a darker and meaner one, we are acquainted with the film's antagonists, played by Prakash Raj, Jagapathi Babu, and Abhimanyu Singh. The second half of the trailer takes us back to Kolkata where Kalaiayyan retorts to violence, both with words and weapons that also include a wet-grinder's stone.

While the trailer reminds us a bit of almost all of Siva's previous films, especially the sister sentiment, Kolkata scenes, and family bonding, Rajini, being the man in the centre of all the action, makes it feel fresh. With so much content to package, it's no wonder that the trailer of Annaatthe is Siva's longest after his debut film, Siruthai. The film also confirms that our protagonist is a middle-aged man, a path Rajini had strayed away from in the last few years as he played his age in films like KaalaKabaliPetta, and Darbar.

Annaatthe promises to be an action-packed entertainer with a warm brother-sister relationship at the centre of it. With Rajini back in a rural avatar after a long time, fans cannot wait to see their favourite star on the big screen after 20 months.
