Actor Nivin Pauly responded to the physical requirements for male leads in films in a recent interview with Sudhir Srinivasan. The actor, who is riding on the success of his family entertainer Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, is gearing up for the release of his next with director Ram, Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai.
Answering when the acceptance came about on people commenting on his physique, he said he takes it as an expression of love. "That is how I see it; it is the way they show their love. I don't feel it comes from a place of malice. They care about how I look, and I totally understand. I feel it is due to that love; people kept supporting me despite a lean patch. They were waiting for good things to happen to me, and that was when Sarvam Maya released. After it was released, even my mother called me asking, 'How is it people love you this much?'"
He went on to add that his career focus is now set on satisfying fans' expectations from him. "People now like to see me in a happy family entertainer. I will do such films. I need to make sure there is no monotony in such films. Until it becomes usual, I will be doing such entertainers."
Calling YKYM a quality Tamil film, Nivin said, "This is a proper Ram sir film with a lot of layers and depth."
Ram has written and directed Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, which follows the story of an 8000-year-old immortal whose encounter with a traveler on a train leads to chaos, including the fate of a rat. These antics also result in the immortal man's past coming into play.
Nivin Pauly makes his return to Tamil cinema with Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, as the immortal man, after Richie (2017). With Soori as the traveler, the cast also includes Anjali, continuing her collaboration with Ram after Kattradhu Thamizh (2007) and Peranbu (2019).
Yuvan Shankar Raja, a recurring collaborator of Ram, has composed music for Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai. The crew of the film also includes Santhosh Dhayanidhi, who has composed additional music, cinematographer NK Ekhambram, editor Mathi VS, production designer Umesh J Kumar, and action choreographer Stunt Silva.
Suresh Kamatchi has produced the upcoming film under the V House Productions banner. The film is releasing on October 1 worldwide.
