On Wednesday, Dhanush shared a note on social media revealing that his film, Om, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, will not release theatrically as planned on October 16, Friday. In the note, Dhanush disclosed that the decision has been made considering the fact that Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth, is set to release on October 15, Thursday. Explaining it, he shared, "Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we have all admired and worshipped over the years has his film arriving on October 15th, just a day before ours. Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date."
The actor, who also produces the film through his Wunderbar Films banner, is yet to announce a new release date for it. At the same time, he revealed that it will not have a Deepavali release, because Suriya's film Scene has been slated to hit theatres around that time. As reported, Scene, directed by Jithu Madhavan, is set to hit theatres on November 06, two days before Deepavali.
Referring to the potential clash with Scene, Dhanush said in the note, "In all fairness, they announced their date first, and we strongly believe that big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other's decisions, keeping the larger welfare of cinema and the industry in mind."
Coming back to Om, the upcoming film also stars Mammootty in an important role alongside Dhanush. It brings Mammootty back to Tamil cinema after 2019's Peranbu. The cast for the upcoming film includes Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, Naseeruddin Shah, and Indrans, among others. It is set to mark Naseeruddin Shah's comeback to Tamil cinema since 2000's Hey Ram, starring Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan.
