Director Pa Ranjith's upcoming Tamil film Vettuvam, starring VR Dinesh, Arya and Sobhita Dhulipala in key roles, has been generating curiosity for its unusual world and genre. The makers unveiled the World of Vettuvam glimpse on Friday, offering a more detailed look at the world of the film and the conflict that drives its narrative. The film, which Pa Ranjith has described as a blend of action and sci-fi, is set across three different periods and explores how the lives and practices of people from the past impact the present and, in turn, shape the future.
The glimpse establishes a world where different groups are locked in a power struggle to establish their strength and authority. The film draws a parallel between the conflicts of different periods, with the groups engaging in battles based on traditional martial arts and combat practices. The actors involved in these sequences underwent training in the respective forms of martial arts for the film. The glimpse also introduces a major competition held during the grand Indra Vizha, where a position of leadership is at stake. As the leaders of various groups clash to secure the coveted position, the video hints at a larger conflict involving power, survival and the consequences of destruction.
Vettuvam marks Pa Ranjith's reunion with Arya after Sarpatta Parambarai, while VR Dinesh, who previously worked with the filmmaker in Attakathi, plays the lead. Sobhita Dhulipala returns to Tamil cinema after the Ponniyin Selvan films. The film also stars Kalaiyarasan, Mime Gopi, Guru Somasundaram, Shabeer Kallarakkal, John Vijay, Sai Dheena, Anand Saami, Harish Uthaman, Lizzy and others.
The film is backed by Pa Ranjith's Neelam Productions and Learn & Teach Productions, with GV Prakash Kumar composing the music. Santhosh Narayanan Chenthilkumar and Franklin Jacob have been credited as the co-writer and dialogue writer, respectively, while Roopesh Shaji, Selva RK, SS Murthi and Dhilip Subbarayan handle cinematography, editing, art direction and action choreography. The film is now scheduled for release in December this year.
