The makers of Vijay Sethupathi's Baththa dropped a glimpse video on Wednesday, offering a sneak peek into his titular character and the other main roles in the upcoming film. Written and directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the film also stars Lijomol Jose as the titular character's wife. Named World of Baththa, the glimpse suggests that Vijay Sethupathi plays a hooligan who picks up fights in his village and does not look after his wife and child in the film.
In the glimpse video, we see Lijomol's character showing concern about his lifestyle and whereabouts. At one point, a child describes someone, presumably, Vijay's character, as one who is not afraid of anything but who induces fear among everyone else.
Baththa is produced by Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, Alok Jain, and Ajit Andhare. On the other hand, the film has Atlee serving as a presenter.
On the technical front, it has composer Sai Abhyankkar‬, cinematographer Selva Kumar SK, editor R Kalaivanan, art director Kannan S, and production designer T Muthuraj. The film also has stunt choreographers Stun Siva, U Pruthvi, and Kevin Kumar.
Baththa brings Vijay Sethupathi back together with his Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012) and Seethakaathi (2018) director Balaji Tharaneetharan. It marks his first directorial venture since 2020's Oru Pakka Kathai. In the meantime, Balaji served as a writer for the Imaigal and Margazhi episode in 2023's Modern Love Chennai and starred in the subsequent year's Emakku Thozhil Romance.
Karan Karki is credited as the dialogue writer for the film. It marks the first collaboration between Vijay Sethupathi and Lijomol Jose. Baththa is slated for an October 01 release in theatres.
Vijay Sethupathi's upcoming films also include Jailer 2, where he plays a cameo, Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road with director Puri Jagannadh, and Pocket Novel with Thiagarajan Kumararaja.
