Representatives of the South Indian Film Writers Association (SIFWA) met with actor-politician Kamal Haasan, at his office in Chennai, on Saturday. The SIFWA's meeting with Kamal Haasan comes after the conclusion of the elections for their working committee.
In a statement SIFWA said, ""As representatives of the Writers' Association, we—the office bearers and executive committee members—were delighted to meet Mr Kamal Haasan, a pioneer and one of the most significant writers in the film industry, as a mark of respect. While there are many remarkable writers in cinema, there is no doubt that Mr Kamal Haasan is a trailblazer who paved the way for the next generation. We had requested an appointment to meet him and seek his insights and guidance."
The statement also read, "He graciously accepted the request and met us, sharing many valuable thoughts. In films he created—such as Mahanadhi, Anbe Sivam, Hey Ram, Guna, and Thevar Magan—his writing stands out for its strength and sharpness; even the briefest of dialogues convey profound meaning. Mr Kamal Haasan is the creative force behind such writing. Meeting him was truly inspiring for us. He set aside time to meet us, offered his best wishes, and encouraged us to run the association effectively. We will cherish the memory of this meeting forever."
Writer-director Cheran was elected the president of SIFWA after the election in July.
