Tamil actor Sunainaa has now announced that she will initiate criminal and civil proceedings against those responsible for creating, publishing or circulating an obscene AI-morphed video featuring her likeness. In a statement shared on Instagram, she said her face had been digitally superimposed onto obscene content without her consent or authorisation. She also warned that anyone who continues to share or repost the material could be held liable.
“I am appalled and disgusted by this vile and malicious act, and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” the actor said, making it clear that she had no association with the video. She added that any suggestion linking her to the content was false and misleading.
Describing the incident as a violation of her personal rights, Sunainaa said, “This is a gross violation of my dignity, my privacy and my identity.” She further stated that the act amounted to sexual harassment and defamation and constituted a criminal offence under Indian law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The actor has called on those responsible to stop creating, uploading, forwarding or reposting the video, including any altered versions of it. She has also asked people who already have the material on their accounts, in online groups or on their devices to delete it. Sunainaa said she would proceed with legal action without issuing further notice.
Her warning extends beyond the original creators of the video. “Anyone who shares it further will also be held liable,” she said, urging her well-wishers, the public and the media not to circulate the content. Instead, she asked them to report it wherever it appears online.
The incident also highlights the wider challenges posed by non-consensual AI-generated intimate content. In October, actor Jr NTR condemned an AI-morphed video involving his Devara: Part 1 co-star Janhvi Kapoor and threatened legal action against those who created and circulated it. He urged social media users not to watch, share or engage with the material. Actor Chiranjeevi subsequently said he would take the issue up with Telugu film industry bodies and recommend a dedicated support mechanism for those affected by such abuse.
Sunainaa, who is known for her performances in Tamil films, including Neerparavai, has not publicly identified those responsible for the video in the statement reported by the media. As of the time of reporting, her announcement concerns her intention to initiate proceedings; there has been no confirmation in the reports consulted that a criminal complaint has already been filed.
