While Vetri Maaran's films have been praised for their strong artistic choices, a criticism the director often faces is the differences between the dialogues that the audiences hear in a theatre, and the dialogues that actors in his films say on screen.
Answering questions at the 16th edition of the Indian Film Project (IFP), the director also addressed this lip sync issue. "Everybody asks about lipsync, I only have one answer, to my team, not to all of you. I ask them, 'Do you want sync or story? I choose story. If you want sync, you have sync. You can keep sync.'"
While speaking about his directing process, he said, "I don't have any process. I just try to be myself, and I try to stick to what I do." He added, "I like to edit. I keep editing, and sometimes even after a film has been released, I keep editing."
Vetri Maaran also addressed the prospect of directing a Hindi film. "I will feel confident in the languages I know, to make films. So if I could have a proficiency in Hindi, maybe I will try doing it."
The director's latest release was Viduthalai: Part 2 (2024). He is currently working on the Silambarasan TR headlined Arasan, which is set in the world of Vada Chennai (2018). Vetri Maaran will also reunite with Dhanush on Thamizh Murugan.
