Actor Suman, known for his formidable villain roles across industries, recently spoke about the egalitarianism of Rajinikanth and how the Superstar keeps defying age onscreen. Speaking to the media, Suman said that with Jailer 2, the Superstar has proven once again that age is just a number. “My Rajini anna gave me a very powerful role in Sivaji: The Boss. Knowing that my role would dominate his, he still gave me the opportunity,” the actor shared. Suman also recalled working with Rajinikanth in the 1981 film Thee, a remake of Yash Chopra and writers Salim-Javed’s Deewar.
“In the Deewar remake, I did Sashi Kapoor's role and Rajini anna played Amitabh Bachchan’s character. We have been friends since then,” Suman recalled. The actor also spoke about Rajinikanth’s openness to giving space to his co-stars, despite his Superstar status.
“He did a guest role in the remake of a Hindi film starring me as the hero. He was a superstar at the time, but even so, when I asked him for it, he came and did a guest role. That, too, became a hit,” Suman shared while adding that he forgot the name of the film. It appears that the actor was referring to Nyayam Meere Cheppali, the Telugu remake of Aaj Ki Awaaz, the Tamil remake of which (Naan Sigappu Manithan) Rajinikanth headlined.
“Look at his age now. Even at 75 years, he is so active, has delivered such a big hit, and is a record-breaker,” Suman added about his Sivaji co-star before opining that Rajinikanth has chosen to sport white hair in Jailer 2 and played a character suitable for his age.
While noting that the cameos from superstars such as Hrithik Roshan, Mohanlal, and Shivarajkumar aided the film in becoming a hit, Suman reminded the audience that Rajinikanth is still “the main focus” in it. “Hats off to Rajinikanth ji. Extraordinary collection,” the actor further noted about the Jailer sequel.
