Director Nelson's Jailer 2 is off to a really strong start at the box office. According to data from the tracker Sacnilk, it has earned around 200 crore from theatres in India and more than 300 crore at the worldwide box office. The Jailer sequel has impressed Rajinikanth fans everywhere and has also left a positive impact on a large number of general audiences. Director Nelson has come together with Rajinikanth and composer Anirudh following the tremendous reception for the film.
Speaking about the Jailer 2 box office collection, Nelson has credited the Rajinikanth factor for it. Taking to social media on Saturday, the director shared a photograph featuring him with Rajinikanth and Anirudh and wrote, "Theatres are going bonkers! Thalaivar magic hits different."
The director then expressed his gratitude to viewers for the overwhelming reception of the film. "Thank you, dear audience, for the phenomenal love and reception for Jailer 2. Nothing beats seeing the audience celebrate it like this! Thank you all for the love and support," he added.
While the audience has expressed reservations regarding the second half of the Jailer sequel and some of the cameos in it, they have celebrated the first half and appreciated the film on the whole. Much of the unanimous appreciation has gone to the 'peak' first half and the inclusion of new characters in the franchise, such as Namo Narayana's Moorthy, to name one. Some of them are even demanding a third part from the makers.
Besides original cast members such as Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu, Shivarajkumar, Vinayakan, Mohanlal, and Jaffer Sadiq, the second part has introduced new actors such as Suraj Venjaramoodu, SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Hakkim Shah, Hrithik Roshan, and Vijay Sethupathi, among others.
