Director Balaji Tharaneetharan and actor Vijay Sethupathi's film Baththa is going global, as is Sai Abhyankkar's music in it. On Wednesday, Spotify updated its list of Top Albums Debut Global for the period ranging from October 09 to 11. While the rest of the nine positions belong to music from international artists, such as Troye Sivan, FOLA, Pitbull, and Cameron Winter, among others, Sai Abhyankkar's Baththa album ranks eight in the list.
It is regarded as one of Sai Abhyankkar's best works till date. While the music from the film does have its fair share of detractors, the majority of the audience hail it as one of the year's finest as well. The soundtrack has popular and well-appreciated songs such as 'Chellame Magale' and 'Vaazhanum Baththa,' among others.
Sai Abhyankkar himself shared the Spotify chart on his Instagram Stories space. Recently, the music director expressed his gratitude to the audience for the "truly overwhelming" amount of "love for the songs and the score of Baththa."
The film continues its successful box office run after opening in theatres to overwhelmingly positive reviews recently. According to the latest data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, the film has earned around 30 crore from theatres in India after two weeks of its release.
The growing popularity of the Vijay Sethupathi starrer and comparisons to feel-good films such as Meiyazhagan have contributed to demands of a Hindi dubbed version from the audience in North India.
For the unversed, the film tells the story of a dreaded gangster (Vijay Sethupathi) who gets accidentally locked up inside a school restroom by a young boy (Sai Prithvi Raj). Actors such as Lijomol Jose, Ajay Ghosh, Santhy Balachandran, and Arjun Chidambaram are also part of the cast.
