Actor Vijay Sethupathi, who is basking in the success of Baththa, has thanked the Kerala audience for making the film a success in their state too.
He took his social media handle to write, "A big thank you to Kerala for showering Baththa with so much love! I truly wish I could be there with you all, but I'm sending my from afar. Keep the love coming and continue showering our film with your blessings!" (sic)
Baththa, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the titular role, has him play a local don who is stripped of his ego by a school-going child. What happens after this incident and how it transforms Baththa as an individual is what the film is about. The film opened to mostly positive reviews upon release.
Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, who is reuniting with Vijay Sethupathi after Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi, Baththa also stars Sai Prithviraj, Lijomol Jose, Sahasra Shree, Santhy Balachandran, and Hari Krishnan in pivotal roles.
The film was received well by both critics and audience alike. Prashanth Vallavan from CE wrote in his review of Baththa, “Baththa has the distinct charm of offering whatever you want out of it. It could be a fun commercial family entertainer if you choose to look at it that way, or it could read as a parable on an arrogant man’s ego death. The film is also a deep psychological dissection of how much of the human experience, the choices we make, are dictated by the far simpler unconscious imprints left by our childhood."
