Karthik Subbaraj joined the chorus of admirers for Suriya's latest film Scene, directed by Romancham and Aavesham fame Jithu Madhavan. The film, which marks Jithu's directorial debut in Tamil cinema, also stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen in important roles. Speaking about it, Karthik said that he "loved" the film and described it as "a mad, fun, intelligent and whacky thriller." The filmmaker also expressed his admiration for Jithu Madhavan, calling his film "brilliantly written and well made."

Saying Suriya's "cool, swag performance was a treat to watch," Karthik Subbaraj called it a "full on blast" in theatres. He commended Nazriya Nazim and Naslen's performances, calling these 'awesome,' in his Scene review. The filmmaker congratulated the whole team behind the film "for this blockbuster Diwali entertainer."

Scene follows a murder investigation by Suriya's character, Inbaraj. The police officer comes out of retirement to solve a new murder case with an eerie connection to an old "Perfume Killer" case. Assisting Inbaraj in the investigation is Nazriya Nazim's character, Maya. The film also stars Lal as Inbaraj's senior officer and Raj Priyan as his colleague, Anandraj and Raji as the police officer's parents, and Karthik Subbaraj's father Gajaraj as Nazriya's onscreen father. Meanwhile, Naslen plays the antagonist named Eeshwaran in the film.

Despite the makers revealing the fact that Naslen portrays the antagonist in the film, the audience has been appreciating Jithu for maintaining the suspense quotient in it.

Coming back to Karthik Subbaraj, the filmmaker and Suriya have often expressed mutual admiration for each other. For example, even when Suriya's film Kanguva faced much criticism on its opening day, Karthik commended it. He would later go on to work with the actor on Retro.

Recently, Suriya praised Karthik's film Dorothy, starring Sananth, Rishikanth, and Keerthy Suresh, as it was receiving criticism for its treatment of an LGBTQ+ angle.
