Recently, we reported about director Nelson's Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, breaking the previous record of the Superstar's own 2.0 (2018). The film is still running in theatres, even as producer Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures banner has announced its digital premiere. According to data from the tracker Sacnilk, the latest Jailer 2 box office collection stands at around 823 crore.
Meanwhile, Tamil Film Active Producers Association General Secretary T Siva and Treasurer G Dhananjeyan have presented the Superstar with a memento for the record-breaking box office performance of the film. Publicist Nikil Murugan announced the news and reported that the film's worldwide collection has crossed 850 crore. Much of the industry has been praising Rajinikanth for the film's success, underscoring that it shows the Superstar's enduring legacy and star power even at the age of 75 years.
The Jailer sequel brings Rajinikanth back to the franchise as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, a former jailer who now leads a low-profile life with his family in the foothills of the Western Ghats. However, an associate (Suraj Venjaramoodu) of his old enemy Varman (Vinayakan) resurfaces out of nowhere, disrupting Muthuvel's peaceful existence. He now has no option but to revert to his old ruthless self in order to protect not only his family but also his legacy.
The film also stars Jailer actors Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Jaffer Sadiq, Shivarajkumar, Jackie Shroff, and Mohanlal. New to the franchise are actors Suraj Venjaramoodu, Namo Narayana, SJ Suryah, Hrithik Roshan, Vijay Sethupathi, Mithun Chakraborty, and Vidya Balan.
The film is set to become available on the streaming platform Prime Video on November 12, Thursday.
