Nivin Pauly's recent release Sarvam Maya, directed by Akhil Sathyan, ended a major dull period for the actor and the Malayalam industry and grossed over Rs 150 crore worldwide.

The comedy film tells the story of a struggling guitar player (Nivin Pauly) who turns into a priest with his cousin (Aju Varghese) to make ends meet until his musical ambitions become real. However, things become a little complicated when a ghost (Riya Shibu) enters his life. Together, they form an unlikely bond that makes them reflect on their own lives. Actor Preity Mukhundhan who also plays a key role in the film along with Aju Varghese and Janardhanan has now revealed that she was set to play Riya Shibu's character Delulu in the film.

In an exclusive interview with Cinema Express, the dancer-actor shared that she auditioned for Delulu's role before Saadhya (her character in the film). "As far as I remember, the story at that point was different. If I had done that role, the story would have become a rom-com with a romantic angle emerging between my character and Nivin's Prabhendhu. The film's zone was different. Since the story was about the friendship between a gen-z girl and a much-older man, I didn't want it to lose the essence of it," she said.

Preity also further noted how Akhil later brought her another role from the film which eventually made her say yes. "He said, 'I have written another beautiful role. Do you want to play that?' At that point, I didn't know what it would be. It was added later, but I loved the team and the movie so I said yes. The learning experience that you get from a good team is all that matters at the end of the day," she explained.

Meanwhile, Preity's Tamil movie Blast, which hit theatres on Thursday, has been receiving positive reviews for its first show. The film stars Arjun and Abhirami in lead roles, reuniting them after Vaanavil (2000). Directed by debutant Subash K Raj, the film sees the karate-trained family joining hands to protect the powerless when they meet a bigger evil in front of them.
