In a life-imitating-art moment, director AR Murugadoss met his Sarkar hero, the recently-turned Chief Minister Vijay and congratulated him for his massive success in the recently-concluded assembly elections. Photos of the meeting have been going viral on social media with many drawing parallels between his on-screen role in the filmmaker's 2018 political action movie and how real life turned out to be for the actor.

In Sarkar, Sundar (Vijay) plays a powerful corporate figure who returns to Tamil Nadu from the United States to exercise his right to vote in the Assembly elections, only to discover that his vote has already been fraudulently used. Shocked by this, he launches a campaign exposing electoral malpractice and eventually enters the political arena as an independent candidate, all while facing repeated threats to his life and efforts to discredit him. Towards the end of the film, Sundar wins the election, but decides against becoming the CM and instead chooses one of his supporters to take on the post. However, in reality, the actor becomes the elected head of the state government.

For the unversed, AR Murugadoss and Vijay had first joined hands on Thuppakki in 2012 and then Kaththi in 2014. Both the films were blockbusters at the box office. Sarkar marked their third collaboration.

Ever since Vijay took oath as the CM, actors and several members of the film fraternity have been making a beeline to visit him and share their wishes. Previously, filmmaker Venkat Prabhu also called on the CM and presented a numberplate TN-07-CM-2026, from their 2024 spy thriller, GOAT, a reference to Vijay's political aspirations at that time. Representatives of the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) and the Tamil Film Active Producers Association (TFAPA) also met him. Actors Arjun, and Shanthnu also visited him to share their wishes earlier this week.

On the work front, AR Murugadoss last made Madharaasi (2025) and Excel Entertainment had recently joined hands to produce an action entertainer starring Sunny Deol in the lead. The film, which is currently in production, the film also stars Jyotika in a prominent role.
