Director RJ Balaji, whose recent film Karuppu is running with packed houses across Tamil Nadu and other states after its release on Friday, penned a note of gratitude, thanking fans and audiences for their "overwhelming love". He noted that it was beyond anything the team had imagined when they set out to make it.

The action drama, headlined by Suriya, which released after a day's delay, set cash registers ringing as positive reviews spread. Along with it came several videos of people entering a state of trance as they witnessed the film, which narrates the story about the reincarnation of the Karuppuswamy, on screen.

Acknowledging the same, RJ Balaji requested audiences to be kind if they witness people "touched by divine energy" in theatres. "Please be present. Help them with water, with space, with a steady hand. Inform the theatre staff so they can be cared for with dignity. A moment of compassion from a stranger is, in itself, a sacred act," he wrote, adding a request to exhibitors and theatre partners across the state.

"We humbly request you to keep your staff prepared and sensitive to these moments. Please treat every such moment with the reverence it deserves. Karuppu belongs to the people now. The faith you've brought into the theatre is what has made this film what it is. Let us protect that faith together, with grace," he noted.

Karuppu has collected nearly Rs 70 crore in theatres across India in three days, according to Sacnilk. Its worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 120.75 crore.

It stars Trisha as the female lead. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi. RJ Balaji also plays a key role in the film.
