

It looks like director-actor RJ Balaji and his co-star Suriya have a blockbuster on the cards with Karuppu. The general response from the audience and industry trackers suggest that the film marks a major comeback into the mass entertainment space for Suriya, after the failures of Kanguva and Retro.
According to data from the box office tracker, the film earned 27.98 crore from theatres in India on Saturday, the second day of its release. In comparison, the film minted 17.93 crore at the India box office on Friday. Overall, the RJ Balaji directorial venture has grossed 45.91 crore from theatres in India and 24 crore from cinema halls abroad, taking the worldwide collection to 69.91 crore.
Alongside the Karuppu box office collection, the number of shows for the film also increased from 4891 on Friday to 6288 on Saturday, according to Sacnilk data.
The film tells the story of the titular God (Suriya) coming to Earth to help victims of injustice. Besides Suriya and RJ Balaji, the film stars Trisha, Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Natty, Sshivadha, Swasika, and Supreeth Reddy, among others. On the technical front, it has music by Sai Abhyankkar, editing by R Kalaivanan, production design by Arun Venjaramoodu, and cinematography by GK Vishnu.
The film is produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures. On Saturday, Suriya appeared on video and thanked the film's producers, some of its key crew members, and RJ Balaji. The actor also expressed his gratitude to the audience for showing patience with the film amidst multiple delays, including its release postponement from May 14 to 15, Friday.
