Vijay's latest film Jana Nayagan has witnessed multiple hurdles since December 2025, weeks ahead of its scheduled release during the Pongal festival. From being unable to secure a censor certificate, to running into legal hurdles to election officials reviewing the film, the H Vinoth-actioner faced back-to-back setbacks. The film was also victim to a massive leak that caused further issues to the cast, crew and producers. While Vijay too had expressed his sadness on the ongoing censor issue, the actor-turned-politician largely remained unfazed in times of major crisis
However, despite the delays and noise surrounding the issue, the wave for Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) refused to die down as the actor has clinched over 100 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly election and is set to form the majority government with a possible coalition. The actor is also expected to win both the seats he contested—Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East.
Reportedly, the film has also faced a financial loss of over Rs 70 crore with Prime Video terminating their OTT agreement soon after these issues surfaced. Theatre owners had also suffered considerable losses after it failed to release in the big screen and was stalled until the assembly elections took place on April 23.
With uncertainty surrounding the theatrical release increasing, Vijay's success in the recent polls has sparked renewed hope for fans, theatre owners and members of the film fraternity. Ever since trends swayed in favour of Vijay, thousands of fans enthusiastically posted on their X handles with AI-generated videos of Jana Nayagan's trailer and promo videos with the tagline 'Chief Minister' Vijay. Some also said the actor is set to take over the government to release his 'banned' film.
Vijay's unprecedented victory has also sparked widespread talks among film circles. Contrary to popular sentiments and belief, projections are indicating a massive box office opening for the film when it releases. If rumours are to be true, Jana Nayagan may be permitted for early morning shows with a government order expected to be issued when censor certificate issues are cleared.
It is still early days to predict the future of Jana Nayagan's release and its victory, but trends suggest bright days for the action thriller with fans expecting the film to be out of the cans soon. Are tough times finally over for Jana Nayagan as Vijay becomes the 'Jana Nayagan' as fans suggest? Will the film trump all existing rules in the book to set the cash registers ringing? Will KVN Productions' regain their lost money and rewrite their success? Answers for these questions continue to remain open ended as an official word from the makers are awaited.
Also starring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani, Jana Nayagan was intended to be Vijay's final film before his political entry. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
