The Central Board of Film Certification's revising committee will rewatch Vijay's Jana Nayagan on Tuesday, as per a report on NDTV. Originally scheduled to happen last Monday, the committee postponed the screening after a member fell ill. Following the re-censorship of the film, it will speculatively be set for release after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which are scheduled for April 23. Recent reports also suggested that with KVN Productions’ Toxic set for a June 4 release, they may be scheduling Jana Nayagan for June as well.
Jana Nayagan's release, initially slated for January 9, was postponed after the producers claimed that a CBFC committee had evaluated the film in December 2025 and had made recommendations for excisions, which the production house confirmed to have carried out. Later a member of the original evaluating committee filed a complaint, stating that the film violated the sentiment of certain religions and did not consult with the armed forces before using their logos in the film. The chairman of the CBFC then moved to send the film to a revising committee.
Recently, the makers submitted a letter to the Madras High Court registry, seeking to withdraw their case against the Central Board of Film Certification. KVN Productions, the banner behind the film, filed an appeal with the Madras HC in January after the CBFC moved to send the film to a revising committee.
Jana Nayagan also stars Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain, among others. There has also been persistent buzz that Jana Nayagan may be a remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari, a speculation strengthened by the trailer, though the makers have stopped short of confirming it.
Jana Nayagan has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav. Along with KVN Productions, the film is co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK.
