Speculation surrounding Suriya’s upcoming film Vishwanath & Sons has suggested that the project might be a remake of the 2007 Malayalam film Kangaroo. However, recent reports indicate that these claims are unfounded.
According to 123Telugu, the family drama directed by Venky Atluri is based on an original script written by the filmmaker himself, dismissing earlier rumours that linked the story to the Malayalam movie.
The speculation appears to have stemmed from the premise of Kangaroo, which stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead. The film revolved around an auto-rickshaw driver who unexpectedly finds himself responsible for a child. As the story unfolds, he gradually uncovers the hidden truth about the child’s parentage.
Meanwhile, Vishwanath & Sons is scheduled to arrive in theatres in July 2026. The makers recently revealed first-look posters featuring Suriya holding a baby, which has sparked curiosity about the film’s storyline. The cast also includes Mamitha Baiju, Raveena Tandon, and Radikaa Sarathkumar in prominent roles.
Before the release of Vishwanath & Sons, Suriya will be seen in Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji. The fantasy action film reportedly follows a lawyer who becomes possessed by a deity and begins fighting injustice. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead, with Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, and Anagha Maya Ravi also part of the ensemble. An official release date for the film is yet to be announced.
Looking further ahead, the actor has also begun work on another project tentatively titled Suriya 47. Directed by Jithu Madhavan, known for Aavesham, the film is said to be a cop action-comedy. Reports suggest Suriya will play an eccentric and carefree police officer, with the story revolving around a light-hearted team of cops who are suddenly tasked with solving a serious case. The project also stars Nazriya Nazim Fahadh as the female lead and Naslen in a key role. Composer Sushin Shyam is expected to make his Tamil cinema debut with the film.
