Actor Radikaa Sarathkumar is earning plenty of praise for her portrayal of an elderly woman in director Sivakumar Murugesan's latest film Thaai Kizhavi. Radikaa commands the screen with a role that makes a big impact on the film's narrative, despite not having as much screen time as for some of the other characters in it.
The actor spoke about the success for the film at a recent public event promoting her daughter Varalaxmi Sarathkumar's film as a director, namely Saraswathi. Expressing her pride for the film's success, Radikaa said that she has "seen a lot of success" in her career. However, the actor added that she is "more proud" about "setting the bar" for other female actors in the industry with Thaai Kizhavi. The actor's comments come with the International Women's Day being just around the corner.
"Age is no bar. I know how the industry operates. I took a choice to be in control of my career. I told myself, 'I will take the decisions' at the start of my career."
The actor then pointed at some of the other actresses in the audience, including Simran, Priyamani, and Varalaxmi and told them not to be disappointed when opportunities do not come their way. "When something crosses you and does not come to you, don't ever feel bad. Let it go because there is something bigger in store for you."
Radikaa Sarathkumar also suggested that Simran has told her about wanting better roles in Tamil cinema. "I know Simran will tell me, 'Ma'am, I should get better roles.' You don't have to worry Simran, it will come to you. You are here to stay. And we are all here to say, 'Never give up that space,'" Radikaa said.
The actor expressed her pride at seeing big banners for her film Thaai Kizhavi that feature her character as well. "I look at the banners and tell myself, 'That is my space, and I conquered it.'"
