On Monday, JioHotstar Tamil teased the premiere of the third season of their much-loved series, Heart Beat. A promo video featuring the voices of Radhi (Anumol) and Vijay (Karthik Kumar) from the last episode of season 2 initiated discussion about the series' premiere date and storyline.
However, on Tuesday, actor Deepa Balu, who plays the lead role in the series as Reena, put out an Instagram post that hinted at her quitting the show ahead of the season 3 premiere. Deepa Balu is one of the two leads of the series, with the other, Dr Radhi, being portrayed by Anumol.
In an Instagram post, Deepa wrote in Tamil, "It's not easy to leave behind some people in some places. But some 'goodbyes' are for our goodness. Always grateful, thankyou very much." Although she didn't mention Heart Beat, she signed off the post with 'Reena' and also mentioned the series as a tag in her caption.
Ever since she made the post, fans have gone frantically commenting under it asking if her announcement is real or if it is only a promotional move. Some fans have also speculated that she means moving away from Dr Radhi and Arjun (Charukesh M) with her father in the series, Vijay, and not quitting the show altogether. While clarity on Deepa Balu's statement is awaited, the post is speculated to be purely promotional.
Season 1 follows Reena, the estranged daughter of celebrated surgeon Dr Radhi, as she joins the surgical residency programme at RK Hospital. While navigating intense medical training alongside fellow interns and senior residents, Reena also develops a relationship with Arjun, son of the hospital’s founder. Her world changes when it is revealed that Radhi is her mother.
In Season 2, Radhi steps away from the hospital but later returns under Arjun’s leadership. As Radhi and Reena confront unresolved emotions, the arrival of Dr Vijay, Reena’s biological father and Radhi’s former love, uncovers long-buried truths before Reena meets with a life-altering accident. The season ended with Reena in a coma, with Vijay finding out the truth about his daughter.
Heart Beat also stars Charukesh M, Sabareesh, Yogalakshmi, RG Ram, Mohan Raman, Padine Kumar, Guru Lakshman, Sarvhaa, Amit Bhargav, Akshathaa Ajit, Shivaraman M, and Abdool Lee, among others. While season 1 ran from March to August 2024, season 3 went on from May to November 2025. More than season 1, season 2 became more successful after the introduction of Karthik Kumar's character.
Written by Deepak Sundarrajan, the series has been directed by him along with Abdul Kabeez and Chidambaram Manivannan. A premiere date for Heart Beat season 3, along with details about the plot and new cast members, is awaited.
