

Actor Rajinikanth, who shares a deep bond with filmmaker Bharathiraja, expressed his deep sorrow on the director's demise and noted how he played a pivotal role in nurturing and elevating the South Indian film industry. The veteran director who has been ailing for a year, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 85.
"He made the industry flourish and gave it new life. Whenever directors, actors, or anyone from the film fraternity faced difficulties, he would stand up for them, fight for their rights, and help resolve their problems," he said, speaking to the press after meeting his family and condoling Bharathiraja's demise.
Underlining that his contributions to the world of cinema will remain unforgettable for years to come, Rajinikanth noted, "His achievements and service to the industry will never fade. His name forever remain etched in the hearts of the Tamil people. May his soul rest in peace."
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay visited the filmmaker's house as soon as he heard about his demise, expressed his sadness on his passing and assured that state honors will be accorded during his final journey as a mark of respect.
Many members of the film fraternity including Kamal Haasan, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Seeman, Suriya, Sivakumar, eminent composer and his close friend Ilaiyaraaja, Sukanya and many others paid their last respects to the filmmaker.
Former Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin along with his son and former deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin too visited his residence in the morning.
