Actor Revathy made her debut in Tamil cinema with a role in 1983's Mann Vasanai, directed by Bharathiraja. The actor went on to star in some more films directed by Bharathiraja, including Pudhumai Penn (1984), Oru Kaidhiyin Diary (1985), and Taj Mahal (1999). Recently, the actor recalled actor-Tamil Nadu chief minister MGR's visit to the set of Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, where she co-starred with Kamal Haasan.
Speaking to JFW Binge, Revathy showed a photograph of MGR with the film's cast and crew and shared, "This is from the set of Oru Kaidhiyin Diary in Tamizhagam, Ooty. At the time, MGR avargal was the Chief Minister. Usually, when he would stay there, film shooting was not allowed. However, Bharathiraja said, 'Please tell him that we are shooting the film.' And that was the last day of shoot for Kamal sir, so we had to wrap it up."
When the team asked for permission to shoot the film on that day, MGR gave a go-ahead without thinking twice. Recalling it, Revathy shared, "He said, 'So what? Bharathi is doing the film? Tell them to shoot it. I would also join you and watch the shooting.' He then came to the set and sat there on a chair." She playfully said, "He was watching the shoot, and I was running away," before adding, "It was such a lovely experience."
Revathy's anecdote comes around a month after the death of Bharathiraja. Following the legendary director's passing, Revathy shared on social media, "RIP Bharathiraja sir - the reason that I am here as an actor and did the film I did."
The director happened to notice the actor's photograph in a magazine cover, leading him to cast her in his 1983 film.
