It has been a case of 'double delight' for composer GV Prakash over the last two days. On Saturday, he was announced as a National Award winner for 2024 for his background score for Amaran. Now, on Sunday, he took to X and announced that his composition, 'Mutta Kalakki,' from Youth has become the highest-viewed Indian film song of 2026 so far. The composer shared, "It’s a 250 Million for Mutta Kalakki the highest viewed song for any feature film in 2026 India." The music director also tagged Youth director-actor Ken Karunaas and producer Paarvathaa Entertainments in his post.
Notably, 'Mutta Kalakki' is sung by actor-filmmaker Ken Karunaas himself based on his own lyrics, with Anand Kashinath being credited for 'backing vocals'. The track, which comes in the contemporary pop genre, has playful metaphors that have been appealing more to the Gen Z and that discuss a romantic crush.
Interestingly, GV Prakash released the track through his own label as the team behind the film faced rejection from music labels, because Ken was a first-time director and a relatively new actor.
'Mutta Kalakki' has also been part of a contentious comment from director-actor Ken Karunaas. In a promotional interview for Youth, he said that some heroines who rejected his offer to star in the film with him shared reels with the song. The comment drew some backlash from a section of the audience, who criticised Ken for choosing 'a fair-skinned' actress from Kerala as his pair in Youth while rejecting others from his home state. Subsequently, Ken clarified his comment, saying that he did not mean any harm by it and only wanted to highlight the reality of a newcomer in cinema such as him.
The song now has 252 million views, only around seven million less than Sai Abhyankkar's independent track 'Pavazha Malli'.
