Kerala's government has launched an anti-narcotics campaign called Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt, of which Mohanlal has been a part for a while now. In the latest development, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has revealed that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has expressed his full backing for the campaign and that he will attend an event related to it in Kochi alongside Mohanlal. The government is yet to announce the event date.
Ramesh Chennithala's revelation comes shortly after his meeting with Vijay in Chennai about the campaign. Earlier, Vijay could not attend Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan's swearing-in ceremony, despite the latter's invitation to it. However, there is strong indication that he will attend this event, considering his history with such initiatives and the social implications at play. It is worth noting that Vijay recently led an anti-substance drive in Tamil Nadu and urged youngsters to stop drug consumption and choose to take part in sports instead.
More specifically, he recently participated in a "Start Run, Stop Drugs" marathon along Marina Beach in Chennai. Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the marathon saw Vijay flagging it off and joining hundreds of young people promoting a lifestyle free of drugs. During the race, he also used the slogan that encouraged people to give up drugs and take up sports.
On the other hand, Mohanlal has been a core part of the Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt campaign. A key element of the campaign is the iconic line "Narcotics is a dirty business," from Mohanlal's film Irupatham Noottandu, later referenced in Lucifer. The upcoming event is expected to reunite Mohanlal with his Jilla co-star Vijay. Recently, when the superstar became the CM, Mohanlal congratulated him on it and conveyed his best wishes to him for his journey ahead.
