Even after completing 300 films as an actor, Yogi Babu says there is one dream collaboration he is still waiting to tick off his list—sharing screen space with Kamal Haasan.
Speaking at the audio launch of his milestone film Arjunan Per Paththu, Yogi Babu was asked if there were any actors he was yet to work with. Responding with his trademark humour, he first joked, "I'd like to act with you," before adding, "I still haven't acted with Kamal sir. I hope that happens soon. I want to act with him."
Reflecting on his journey, the actor said he does not view his 300-film milestone as something to celebrate by attaching numbers to his career. Instead, he said he hopes time will ultimately decide his legacy. "Rather than celebrating ourselves with numbers, I want to earn a place like Nagesh sir and Manorama amma. That's the level I aspire to reach," he said.
Yogi Babu also stressed that he has never chosen films based on the heroine cast opposite him. "I acted with Nayanthara back in 2016 itself. I've never worried about which heroine I'm paired with. For me, the story is what matters," he said.
Speaking about his early years in the industry, the actor recalled the struggles he faced despite being born and raised in Chennai. "People think only those from outside the city struggle to enter cinema. That's not true. Even those born in Chennai struggle. I've experienced it for 24 years," he said, adding that before making it in films, he worked in television, including Lollu Sabha, and took up several behind-the-scenes jobs that shaped his career.
Yogi Babu also said he remains open to helping aspiring filmmakers. Recalling how director Ra Rajmohan had narrated the story of Arjunan Per Paththu years ago before reconnecting with him later, the actor said he is always willing to support assistant directors with promising scripts. "I'm ready to help directors and assistant directors. If the story is right, come to me," he said.
The actor also credited his faith in Lord Murugan for keeping him grounded through his journey. Asked if devotion had contributed to his success, Yogi Babu replied, "I have immense faith in Murugan. I believe God has protected me. Today it's 300 films; who knows, it may even become 3,000."
Arjunan Per Paththu, directed by debutant Ra Rajmohan, marks Yogi Babu's 300th film as an actor. The film, slated for release on July 17, also stars Anamika Mahi, Kaali Venkat, Aruldoss, Ayali Madhan, Mynaa Nandhini, Sendrayan and Subramaniam Siva, with music composed by D Imman.
