Ever since the release of the trailer for director H Vinoth's Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, the discourse around whether it is a remake of Anil Ravipudi's Bhagavanth Kesari, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has become more intense. Sreeleela, who also starred in Bhagavanth Kesari, recently opened up about the remake discourse again. Speaking at a recent event, she said that she was not aware of it. However, in a more recent conversation with Galatta Plus, the actor admitted that she did not anticipate the adaptation to materialise in this way before quickly correcting herself by saying, "I do not know if it is a proper remake". Eventually, the actor said that it is "amazing" that Vijay is part of a retelling of what she considers a film with a "beautiful story".
Speaking about her National Award winning film, Sreeleela said, "Bhagavanth Kesari is such a beautiful story, and I was part of it. So I have so much respect for it."
The actor's recent comments come shortly after the Telugu film's producer Sahu Garapati confirmed to CE that the Vijay starrer is a remake of it. In the Telugu film, Nandamuri Balakrishna's character is like a father figure to Sreeleela's Viji. Likewise, Mamitha Baiju plays the daughter of Vijay's character in Jana Nayagan and her name in the film is also Viji. Since the release of the film's trailer, netizens have been comparing how even it is similar to the Bhagavanth Kesari trailer.
Coming back to Sreeleela, the actor makes her Tamil debut with a role in Sudha Kongara's Parasakthi, opposite Sivakarthikeyan, which is expected to face off with the Vijay starrer.
