The distributor for the Vijay headliner, Jana Nayagan, announced that the film's initial release, planned on January 8, will be postponed. Prime Media took to social media to announce the postponement of the release, after the Malaysian distributor announced the postponement of the film's release in the country.
Through their X handle, Prime Media wrote, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the initial release of Jana Nayagan, scheduled for 8 January 2026, has been postponed to a later date. We are currently awaiting further updates from the production team. Once the new release date is confirmed, official announcements will be shared through our authorized platforms."
They further wrote, "All the theater chains have been informed, and they will start processing the refunds. We regret the inconvenience caused. Thank you for the understanding and support."
The postponement comes after the Madras High Court hearing, which was held after an appeal was filed by Jana Nayagan's producer, KVN Productions, challenging the CBFC's move to review the film's certification
