Breaking the silence on Jana Nayagan's censorship formalities, filmmaker Ajay Gnanamuthu launched scathing remarks against throwing a spanner in the smooth release of the Vijay starrer.

Taking to his X handle, Ajay wrote that whatever is happening to Jana Nayagan is an "absolute misuse of power". He went on to add that a film is not just about one person, but a work involving hundreds of people's efforts. Consoling the makers that "we will celebrate the film" whenever it releases, and added that he will visit the theatre only when Jana Nayagan releases.

It is worth noting that Ajay Gnanamuthu has worked as an assistant director to AR Murugadoss in the Vijay starrer Thuppakki (2012).

For the unversed, KVN Productions LLP moved the HC with a plea to expedite the censorship process of the H Vinoth directorial, as it was scheduled to release in theatres on January 9. The bench led by PT Asha, on Tuesday (January 6), adjourned the hearing to Wednesday (January 7), asking CBFC to give an explanation why the film was sent to the revising committee.

During today's hearing at the High Court, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) ARL Sundaresan, representing CBFC, submitted that the chairperson of the CBFC can task a committee to review the certification. The ASG further stated that the film was sent to a new panel owing to the makers using symbols of the branches of the Indian Armed Forces without prior consultation.

Countering his argument, senior advocate Satish Parasaran, representing KVN Productions, questioned why the producers were not informed that a complaint was lodged with the review committee and how it is possible for one person from the panel that already reviewed the film to raise a complaint when they have already recorded their recommendations.

Hearing arguments from both sides, the bench adjourned the hearing to January 9, and the judgment is expected to be delivered on that day. With the release originally planned on January 9, it is expected that the film will move to another date, subject to confirmation by the makers.
