In a setback for actor-politician Vijay's last film Jana Nayagan, which is eyeing a release on January 9, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) informed the Madras High Court during the hearing of the petition of the film's production company KVN Productions seeking to expedite the certification process, that the film will be screened for censorship by a newly appointed committee.

To the bench led by Justice PT Asha, the producer Venkata K Narayana submitted that he had applied for a censor certificate on December 18, 2025. He stated that he received a communication from the Regional Office of CBFC that the film would be given a 'UA' certificate, subject to making some excisions and modifications. However, he added he did not hear from the CBFC upon agreeing to make the cuts and resubmitting the film on December 24.

Directing CBFC to produce complaints as to why Jana Nayagan was sent to the revising committee, the court adjourned the hearing to Wednesday.

The film, marking the first collaboration between Vijay and H Vinoth, is the actor’s last film before his political plunge in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu elections.

Jana Nayagan also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mamitha Baiju, and Narain. The film reunites Vijay with Prakash Raj after Varisu, Pooja after Beast, and Gautham Vasudev Menon after Leo.

On the technical side, the film has music by Anirudh, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, editing by Pradeep E Ragav, action choreography by Anl Arasu, and art direction by Selva Kumar.

The film is simultaneously releasing in Hindi (Jan Neta) and Telugu (Jana Nayakudu).
