On Sunday, the audio launch event of Moon Walk, the upcoming Prabhu Deva film in which he is collaborating with AR Rahman after 25 years, took place in Chennai. At the event's red carpet, the dancer and actor opened up about why he chose the film.
Prabhu Deva revealed that he didn't need to hear the script, as a prospective collaboration idea interested him the most. "I didn't even hear the script for the film. The minute the director proposed the idea of doing a film with me and Rahman sir, I said okay. I heard the script much later, and that became a value addition to why I should pick this film."
The veteran actor has immense words of praise for first-time director Manoj NS. He said, "Manoj is making his debut with Moon Walk, but his directorial sense is unbelievably good. He is one of the best filmmakers I have worked with in all these years. Moon Walk is completely Manoj sir's dream film."
Prabhu Deva shared that he practised for nearly a month for the dance sequences in the film. He explained, "Rahman sir and I are collaborating after years. Which means the expectation will be sky-high. I wanted to go back to our Kaadhalan, Mr Romeo, days and match my steps up to his pep and speed. I practised for a month, not to learn the steps, but to master the swag and the speed so that it became muscle memory. I have put in this hard work for the audience, who expect the same output from me now as they did in my early days."
Moon Walk is directed and produced by Manoj, who is the founder and CEO of Behindwoods. The director is also producing the film with Divya Manoj and Praveen Elak.
While Prabhu Deva leads the ensemble, the cast also includes AR Rahman, Yogi Babu, Aju Varghese, Satz, Arjun Ashokan, Nishma Chengappa, Singampuli, Lollu Sabha Swaminathan, TSR Srinivasan, Ramar, Dr Santhosh Jacob, Redin Kingsley, Sushmitha Nayak, Rajendran, Deepa Shankar, and Ramkumar Natarajan.
Moon Walk has cinematography by Anoop V Shylaja and editing by Raymond Derrick Crasta, as well as choreography by Sekhar VJ, Piyush Chazia, and Sandy. The film is set for a theatrical release in summer 2026.
