Earlier this Saturday, producer Ishari K Ganesh of Vels Film International announced that his next film Kara, starring Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Raja, will release theatrically on April 30, Thursday. The producer made the announcement at his namesake university's cultural festival 'VELS Nakshatra'. At the same time, he said that his "dream project" with Dhanush would be a sequel to Vada Chennai.
As reported earlier, the film is directed by Vignesh Raja based on a screenplay that he has written with Alfred Prakash. Vignesh is known for his work as a co-writer and director on the 2023 suspense thriller Por Thozhil, starring Sarathkumar and Ashok Selvan. Kara brings him back together with his Por Thozhil co-writer Alfred.
Kara is the 54th film in Dhanush's career. Its cast also includes Mamitha Baiju, Jayaram, KS Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Prithvi Pandiraj, and Karunas, among others. Its technical team includes cinematographer Theni Eswar, composer GV Prakash, editor Sreejith Sarang, and art director Mayapandi. The film reunites Theni Eswar with Dhanush after collaborations on 2021's Karnan and with composer GV Prakash after last year's Idli Kadai.
The makers are yet to reveal plot specifics, but they recently released a poster featuring Dhanush's character in the middle of a raging fire. "Sometimes, staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive," reads the film's tagline.
Featuring Ishari's lawyer daughter, Kushmitha Ganesh, as a co-producer, Kara is expected to release in theatres also with dubs in Telugu and Hindi.
Dhanush's upcoming projects also include a film with Rajkumar Periasamy of Amaran (2024) fame, an Ilaiyaraaja biopic, and a film based on former president APJ Abdul Kalam.
