Director Ashwath Marimuthu of Dragon fame announced earlier this Saturday that he is looking forward to the commence of production on his next film, starring Silambarasan TR in the lead role. The film, tentatively titled STR 51, has been delayed for a long time after its announcement in early 2025 with a glimpse video. It is among the most highly anticipated projects of 2026 in Tamil cinema.

Earlier this Saturday, director Ashwath shared some pictures featuring himself with his film's lead actor Silambarasan TR and producer Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainment. In the caption, the filmmaker wrote, "Strong vibes. Pumped up for shoot. STR Arrival soon!" In the pictures, the trio can be seen in a jovial mood, with smiles all around. Archana also expressed her excitement to begin production on the film.

The makers are yet to reveal the film's title, but Ashwath recently said that it would begin with 'I'.

At the time of its announcement last year, they dropped a glimpse video, revealing Silambarasan's character named 'God of Love'. Since then, STR 51 has been facing a production delay, leading some to speculate about whether it had to do with Silambarasan's behaviour. However, the director quelled the speculation and instead attributed the delay to himself. Back then, Ashwath disclosed that it would take him time to write the screenplay since he wanted a break following the commercial success of Dragon, his film starring Pradeep Ranganathan and Kayadu Lohar, among others.

The latest update about the film has only further dismissed the speculation, if there is any. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the film.

Meanwhile, Silambarasan has multiple other films in the pipeline, including Arasan with Vetri Maaran and his 50th film with director Desingh Periyasamy. Meanwhile, Pradeep Ranganathan recently teased a sequel to Dragon as well.
