Pookie Movie Review: A Gen-Z checklist without a beating heart

Pandiarajan plays Ajay Dhishan's father, while Sunil, Lakshmi Manchu, Indumathi Manigandan, Aaditya Kathir and Vivek Prasanna appear in key roles. The extended cast includes Black Pandi, Bigg Boss Sathya, MJ Shriram, Radha, Ashwin Ram, Shiyara Sharmi, and Priyanka, who play pivotal supporting characters. Manda Fack, Rajamani Paati, Varun, Arun, Mridhula, Aishwarya Ragupathi, Anjali, Thanga Prakash, Mridhula, Sathya, and Shaju.

The upcoming film is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual which is helmed by Ganesh Chandra.  Pookie marks the 18th production venture of actor and music composer Vijay Antony's home banner, Vijay Antony Film Corporation. Vijay Antony's wife, Fatima Vijay Antony, is the producer of the upcoming flick.

An excerpt from CE's review of Pookie reads, "Pookie mistakes cultural referencing for cultural understanding. By reducing Gen-Z love to buzzwords, the film not only misreads its subject but also robs its characters of interiority. When a romance feels less real than the trends it references, the problem is not generational love — it is unimaginative storytelling."

On the technical front, director Ganesh Chandra also cranks the camera for Pookie, which will feature editing and music composed by Vijay Antony. Puthiya Parithi has been credited for the story, screenplay and dialogues.
