The makers of writer-director Karthik Subbaraj's next film, Dorothy, dropped the first song from it on Saturday. Titled 'Kalyana Virundhu,' the track is sung by Yugendran, Anthony Daasan, and Priya Jerson. The upbeat number is composed by Ilaiyaraaja and has his own lyrics. Sharing the song on social media, director Karthik Subbaraj wrote, "Raaja sir music is always my Soul Therapy and working with him was a lifetime dream... And so this moment is feeling very very special to me."
Dorothy stars Keerthy Suresh, Sananth, and Rishikanth in the lead roles. The film is set to have a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. It is expected to be the first Tamil film from India to have a TIFF world premiere in a decade.
Dorothy is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain. Sikhya Entertainment and Dhammam Films are the production banners involved in the film, with the former and Jio Studios serving as presenters. Saravanan Chandran is credited as the additional story writer of the film.
On the technical front, the film also has cinematographer S Thirunavukkarasu, editor Ganesh Siva, and stunt director Dinesh Subbarayan, among others.
Dorothy marks the tenth feature film in Karthik Subbaraj's career. At the time of its announcement, Karthik called the film's story close to his heart and something he has long been wanting to make. He has also directed chapters in the anthologies Bench Talkies, Putham Pudhu Kaalai and Navarasa.
According to reports, the film is in a post-production stage as of now. It is set for a September 25 release in theatres worldwide. Before that, it will have its world premiere at TIFF.
