Kamal Haasan took to social media to pay tribute to the late actor Sowcar Janaki. After being hospitalised on Thursday, Sowcar Janaki passed away at the age of 94, today.

"Beginning from Parthal Pasi Theerum (1962) we have worked together on many films over 40 years. She was the mother, I was the son. The unignorable talent of South Indian cinema," wrote Kamal Haasan through his X handle.

He added, "She has worked with all the leading male actors of her time. She was the preferred choice of my guru K Balachandar. Now she has passed. A maternal image has passed away. I bid her farewell with tears."

Sowcar Janaki began her career in cinema with the Telugu film, Shavukaru (1950). In Tamil she was known for her films with K Balachandar like Neerkumizhi (1965), Edhir Neechal (1968), Kaviya Thalaivi (1970), and Thillu Mullu (1981). Her final Tamil film role was in Biskoth (2022).
