Veteran actor Sowcar Janaki has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai. According to reports, the actor faced some health concerns due to which she is receiving intensive care.
Sowcar Janaki began her career with Shavukaru, a Telugu language film, which gave her the 'Sowcar' mantle. She went on to act in various films mostly in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. She has also appeared in film in Malayalam and Hindi.
In Tamil she is known for her collaborations with K Balachandar in films like Neerkumizhi (1965), Edhir Neechal (1968), Uyarndha Manithan (1968), Kaviya Thalaivi (1970), and Thillu Mullu (1981), among others.
She is the recipient of the Kalaimamani award, and more recently she received the Padma Shri award for her contributions to cinema.
Sowcar Janaki was last seen in Tamil in the 2022 film, Biskoth. Her last film appearance was with Anni Manchi Sakunamule (2023).
