Actor Devan, best known to Tamil audiences for his antagonist role in 1995's Baashha, co-starring Rajinikanth, recently spoke about Vijay's political entry. After resigning from BJP, citing disagreements with its state leadership, he spoke to the media about the superstar-turned-chief minister.
Devan mentioned Vijay's victory in the recent Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election as the prime example of a celebrity making it big in politics. "I am someone who has lived in Tamil Nadu for 25 years. I have acted with him in eight films as a villain. So I know his nature," Devan said about his co-star, who is now the state's CM.
He said that Vijay is not someone who has become a chief minister all of a sudden, contradicting some of the narrative around his political victory.
"He has started it all ten years ago. I still remember him blowing a whistle when we were on set several years ago. We all thought, 'Has he gone mad?' It was something small kids would do. Only now, I am realising that he had his party symbol in mind back then itself," Devan said about Vijay.
Devan said that there are multiple meanings behind the TVK party symbol. The actor said that whistle is a form of alerting the masses about a forthcoming problem.
The actor also cited Pawan Kalyan's transition from acting to politics as an example of how people are willing to look at new faces in the field, regardless of their cinema background. "Pawan Kalyan is the Deputy Chief Minister in Andhra Pradesh. People are open to change," Devan told reporters.
On the work front, the actor was last seen in Bha Bha Ba, co-starring Dileep and Mohanlal. His upcoming films include Law and Order, directed by Ranjith and also starring Thudarum fame Prakash Varma.
