Director Krishnakumar Ramakumar's film GDN, based on inventor GD Naidu's life and career, has not had too many takers after its theatrical release on August 07, Friday. According to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, the film has only grossed around 5.72 crore so far. Despite the criticism from reviewers and the box office performance, the film has its fans. Take JCD Prabhakar, the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, for example.
Prabhakar encouraged school students and college-goers to watch R Madhavan's film and be inspired by the life and accomplishments of GD Naidu. The speaker also suggested that the government take students attending public schools to watch the film, thus allowing it and the inventor's story to reach more young minds in Tamil Nadu.
Prabhakar also discussed the main takeaways from GDN for him, highlighting the significance of knowledge, individual skills, and self-reliance among today's youngsters. The speaker urged youngsters to develop skills and knowledge on their own, with an eye on contributing to India's economic growth rather than waiting for chances to come knocking on their doors.
Prabhakar said that Naidu’s mostly self-taught upbringing, involving minimal formal education, serves as a testament of what one can achieve with curiosity, self-reliance, and determination. The speaker also underscored the significance of students not only recognising their talents but also nurturing these to the fullest. He noted that Naidu's journey shows how meaningful innovation can come from creativity, curiosity, and perseverance.
The speaker appreciated the whole team behind GD Naidu's biopic, calling it stunning. "GDN movie is the need of the hour," he said summarising his opinion about the film.
Besides Madhavan, it also stars Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Vinay Rai, Thambi Ramaiah, Nandalal, Teejay Arunasalam, Sheela, Muralidaran, Karunakaran, Aditi Balan, Kaniha, Mohan Raman, Ramesh Tilak, Richard Bhakti Klein, and Carl Andrew Harte.
