Suriya-Mamitha Baiju's latest movie Vishwanath and Sons is making big strides at the box office as it has already surpassed the Rs 110 crore mark worldwide within only three days of release. Venky Atluri's family entertainer opened with over Rs 15 crore at the box office in India, after which it jumped to Rs 25.73 crore on Saturday, recording a 45 per cent day-on-day growth. On day 3, the film witnessed a slight 7.6 per cent dip to collect a net of Rs 20.55 crore across 4,876 shows.
This pushed the total collections across the country to Rs 67.22 crore and nett collections to Rs 58.15 crore. Overseas, the film continued to perform well to earn Rs 10 crore, taking its worldwide gross collection to Rs 110.22 crore. While the Tamil version got in Rs 11.80 crore, the Telugu version contributed Rs 8.75 crore to the revenue on day 3. It recorded an overall occupancy of 57.58 per cent with peak footfall recorded in the afternoon and evening at 65.77 per cent and 64.69 per cent respectively.
Most reactions from critics and audiences have been positive, garnering praise for Venky Atluri's wholesome, feel-good storyline and engaging screenplay, and for handling a taboo topic with sensitivity. However, the film has been criticised for its predictability and lags in various portions.
In our CE review of the film, we had written, "Vishwanath and Sons could have been a poignant exploration of the age gap in romance and whether logic and reason should be questioned in matters of the heart. However, despite tackling themes like surrogacy, casual dating, sexual desires, falling in and out of love, and of course, the age gap, Vishwanath and Sons decides to become a Dharma Productions film of yore, and espouse the importance of ‘family.’"
Besides Suriya and Mamitha Baiju, the film also stars Radikaa Sarathkumar, Rajiv Menon, Raveena Tandon, Nasser, Sudha, Raghu Babu, Sunil Reddy, Bhavani Sre, Viva Harsha, Kaali Venkat, George Maryan, Hyper Aadhi, Sreeja Ravi, Sarvadaman Banerjee, Mathew Varghese, Kalyani Natarajan, Karate Karthik, and Master Charvik.
The film has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography handled by Nimish Ravi and editing by Naveen Nooli.
