Earlier this Wednesday, Netflix dropped an official trailer for the upcoming film, Pyaar Prema Kalyanam, starring and directed by Elan. The film follows a man (Elan) who gets married and then stays at the bride's (Saanve Megghana) home as "a live-in son-in-law," going against conventions. At one point in the Pyaar Prema Kalyanam trailer, Elan's protagonist can be seen addressing Radikaa Sarathkumar's character as his 'mother,' only for the latter to deliberately ignore him until he calls her 'mother-in-law'.
Written by Nivedita Pohankar, with Elan and Harish GY credited as additional screenplay and dialogue writers, the film marks the acting debut of Elan. He is best known as the director of the 2024 Kavin headliner Star. Notably, Elan made his directorial debut with 2018's Pyaar Prema Kaadhal. It is also worth noting that the upcoming film stars him as a character named Elan and that he doubles up as its lyricist.
Netflix's tagline for the film reads thus: "Elan and Pavi breaking kalyanam traditions with pyaar and prema."
Pyaar Prema Kalyanam also stars MS Bhaskar, Geetha Kailasam, and Elango Kumaravel, among others. While Radikaa and Elango Kumaravel play Elan's mother-in-law and father-in-law, respectively, Geetha Kailasam portrays his mother.
On the technical front, the film has composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. It reunites Elan with Yuvan after collaborations on his previous two films: Pyaar Prema Kaadhal and Star. The upcoming film's technical team also includes cinematographer Dinesh K Babu, editor Pradeep E Raghav, costume designer A Keerthivasan, and production designers A Gopi Anand and Srinivas Kalinga.
The film is produced by Sreenidhi Sagar under the Rise East Entertainment banner. It is slated for an August 21 release exclusively on Netflix. The film is expected to have dubs in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam as well.
