R Madhavan's GDN witnessed a notable improvement in its theatrical performance on the third day, with the biographical drama gaining momentum over the opening weekend.
The film, which chronicles the life of Indian inventor and industrialist G D Naidu, commonly hailed as the 'Edison of India', had a relatively slow start but picked up pace as the weekend progressed. The increase in footfalls on Sunday helped the film post a stronger Day 3 performance, suggesting that positive word of mouth could be working in its favour.
According to early trade estimates, GDN has collected around Rs 2.69 crore net across its Tamil and Telugu versions in India over its first three days. The Tamil version has been the primary contributor, crossing the Rs 2 crore mark during the opening weekend.
On Day 3 alone, the Tamil edition earned approximately Rs 1.13 crore net, taking its three-day total to Rs 2.43 crore. The jump on Sunday marks a considerable improvement over the film's initial collections and gives the Madhavan-starrer a stronger footing heading into the weekdays.
Directed by Krishnakumar Ramkumar, GDN's official logline reads, "Before the technology boom, there was one man who dared to reinvent the future. Witness the life, the struggles, and the genius of GD Naidu." With the weekend showing an upward trend, the film's performance during the coming weekdays will determine whether it can sustain the momentum.
Besides starring in the titular role, Madhavan has also produced the film with his wife Sarita under their Tricolour Films banner in association with Varghese Moolan Pictures. It has reunited Madhavan and Tricolour Films with Varghese Moolan and Vijay Moolan's production banner after their collaboration on the Nambi Narayanan biopic, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. Madhavan is also credited as a writer alongside director Krishnakumar Ramakumar, known for helming Oho Enthan Baby.
In addition to Madhavan, the film also stars Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Vinay Rai, Thambi Ramaiah, Nandalal, TeeJay Arunasalam, Sheela, Karunakaran, Muralidaran, Aditi Balan, Mohan Raman, Kaniha, Ramesh Tilak, Carl Andrew Harte, and Richard Bhakti Klein, among others.
On the technical front, the film has composer Govind Vasantha, cinematographer Aravind Kamalanathan, editor Bijith Bala, production designer Hakkim Sulaiman, and costume designer Jishad Shamsudeen.
